Description & Details

In February 2023, Bull Moose opened the doors on a new Biddeford, Maine location at 403 Mariner Way, inside the Shops at Biddeford Crossing, tucked among big-box neighbors like Target and HomeGoods along the Alfred Road corridor. The move was a significant upgrade for the employee-owned Maine media chain: the new 5,600-square-foot store is nearly three times the size of the 1,800-square-foot Sanford location it replaced, giving the Biddeford outpost far more room for the vinyl, CDs, movies, video games, books, and collectibles that define the Bull Moose shopping experience. The relocation followed the closure of the smaller Sanford storefront, marking what local coverage described as a new chapter for the chain in this part of York County.

Bull Moose itself began in 1989 in Brunswick, Maine, when founder Brett Wickard started the business as an undergraduate with a modest initial investment. Over more than three decades it grew into a chain spanning Maine and New Hampshire, eventually becoming employee-owned in 2022 when Wickard sold the company to its roughly 140 workers rather than to an outside buyer or private equity firm. Along the way, Bull Moose staff played a founding role in Record Store Day, the now-global annual event celebrating independent record stores, which grew out of conversations among Maine and New England shop employees in 2007 and 2008. That history gives the Biddeford store, despite being one of the chain’s newer additions, a connection to a much longer story about independent music retail in New England.

Inside the Biddeford location, shoppers find the same broad mix that defines every Bull Moose store: new and used vinyl records, CDs, DVDs and Blu-rays, current and retro video games and consoles, trading cards, board games, and a substantial used book section, all organized for browsing rather than a quick in-and-out purchase. The larger footprint compared to the old Sanford store means more shelf space for genre-specific vinyl bins, a deeper back catalog of used media, and room for the kind of unhurried crate-digging that vinyl collectors look for. The buyback and consignment counter remains a central feature of the shop, letting customers trade in games, movies, and records for cash or store credit and keeping the secondhand inventory in constant rotation.

Biddeford has been in the middle of a broader retail and residential build-out along the Route 111 corridor in recent years, and the relocated Bull Moose store sits right in that growth, drawing shoppers already headed to the surrounding plaza for other errands. The store keeps long daily hours, open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day of the week, making it one of the easiest stops in the area for an evening browse or a weekend deep dive into the vinyl bins. Reachable at (207) 324-5786, the shop continues the same trade-in and new-release model found at every Bull Moose location, just with considerably more square footage to work with than it had in its previous home. Bull Moose in Biddeford is a roomy, employee-owned Maine media store on Mariner Way known for its 2023 move into a space nearly triple the size of its old Sanford storefront, with vinyl, used books, movies, and video games available seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
