Description & Details

Since the early 1970s, the Frost family has run their antique shop from the same spot on Route 4, roughly five miles north of downtown Farmington in Maine’s western foothills, along the road toward Rangeley. Brenda Frost Brooks and her late husband Donald opened the doors together, building the business over more than 25 years into a trusted name in the Maine antiques community before Donald’s passing, after which their son Matthew stepped in to carry the family legacy forward as its fourth generation of antique dealers.

Look for the yellow barn along Route 4, and you’ll find an eclectic, ever-changing collection sourced primarily from Franklin County and the surrounding western Maine region: jewelry, books, glassware, furniture, crocks, axes, fishing rods and reels, hunting gear, vintage signs, snowshoes, cast iron cookware, pottery, and vintage sewing notions, linens, and clothing, much of it tied specifically to Maine’s rural and outdoor heritage. In 2001, Matthew built a glassblowing studio adjacent to the shop and launched Frost Glassworks, adding handblown glass produced right on site to the antique inventory, a genuinely rare combination of retail antiquing and working artisan craft under one roof. That glasswork pairs naturally with other locally made goods the shop carries, including Vermont’s Hubbarton Forge lighting, Homespice Decor braided rugs, Old Village paint, and Robeez soft-soled children’s shoes.

The family has continued expanding its reach across generations: Brenda’s daughter Sarah now helps manage the shop’s social media presence a couple of days a week, researching and photographing new arrivals, while also running her own Maine-based activewear brand, Spandits, a curated selection of which is sold alongside the antiques. That multi-generational, hands-on family involvement gives Frost Antiques & Gifts a genuinely personal character that regulars have come to know and trust over five decades of continuous operation in the same location.

The shop keeps its merchandise honestly priced and constantly rotating, with the family emphasizing that no two visits look alike. Frost Antiques & Gifts closes only for major holidays, including New Year’s Day, Easter, Independence Day, Labor Day, Indigenous Peoples’ Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, staying open the rest of the year for travelers exploring Maine’s Western Mountains region.

For anyone exploring the foothills near Farmington and Rangeley, Frost Antiques & Gifts offers a rare combination of genuine Maine antique heritage and handblown glass artistry from a family now four generations deep in the business. Frost Antiques & Gifts is a family-owned antique shop and glassblowing studio on Route 4 near Farmington, Maine, operating from the same yellow barn location since the early 1970s and now run by fourth-generation glassblower Matthew Frost alongside his mother Brenda.
