Worth Repeating has followed Betsy Gibbs through several careers, several storefronts, and now a location at 36 Railroad Avenue in Glen Head, New York, where the consignment shop settled in 2026 after eight years two doors down at 8 Railroad Avenue. Gibbs, who was born and raised in nearby Glen Cove, built the business around a name that doubles as a philosophy: clothing and accessories deserve to be worn again rather than discarded, and a life spent starting new ventures is, in her own telling, a life worth repeating. Long before consignment fashion, Gibbs ran a lighting design and repair business called The Good Lite Lady and later brought manicures and pedicures directly to homebound clients, entrepreneurial instincts that eventually led her into resale.
The current shop traces back to a consignment store Gibbs opened in Sea Cliff, previously known as Eileen’s Closet, and later to a Locust Valley location that opened in 2006 and became enough of a fixture that locals still refer to it as a town landmark. Worth Repeating moved to Glen Head in 2018 before settling into its current Railroad Avenue address this year. Along the way Gibbs earned a New York State certification as an Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor, volunteering her training at Mercy New Hope, and she has stayed active on the boards of both the Glen Head Business Association and the North Shore Sheltering Program, work that runs alongside rather than separate from her retail career.
Inside the store, the racks span a wide range of price points and labels, from Chanel down to Banana Republic, all consigned locally and priced to move rather than sit. Anyone hoping to bring in clothing or accessories to sell is asked to call ahead for an appointment, and shoppers can also catch live sales on Wednesdays through the store’s Facebook page, a format that lets Gibbs walk through new arrivals in real time for customers who cannot make it into Glen Head in person. That livestream selling, paired with an active Instagram presence, has kept the shop connected to a customer base well beyond the North Shore even as the physical store has changed addresses more than once.
Gibbs’s community profile extends past the sales floor. She has donated merchandise and volunteered her time at fashion shows for local schools and nonprofit organizations, work that earned her the Leadership Award from the Glen Cove Chamber of Commerce and the Community Service Award from the Glen Cove Boys and Girls Club. Newsday once named the shop one of the top ten stores on Long Island for boutique consignment, and Gibbs has been interviewed on television and featured in a commercial and in a book called Fashionista’s Guide to Shopping. Two decades after first opening in Locust Valley, Worth Repeating in Glen Head remains, in the most literal sense of its name, a business built on giving good things a second life on Long Island’s North Shore.
