Mission Thrift Store is not a typical secondhand retail chain but a faith-based non-profit operating through a joint ministry partnership with Bible League Canada. Net proceeds generated at the Chatham store, like every location in the network, flow toward ministry initiatives active in more than fifty countries as well as more than five hundred local causes across Canada, including food banks and women’s shelters. The organization dates to 1989, when two Canadian businessmen returning from a Bible League Canada missions trip to India opened the first Bibles For Missions Thrift Store in Chilliwack, British Columbia, a concept that was renamed Mission Thrift Store in 2017 as the network expanded past fifty stores nationwide. The Chatham store predates that rebrand by more than two decades, having opened under the original Bibles For Missions banner and carried the mission forward through the transition.
